Can someone post a pic of the emergency tiller handle? Mind is missing and would like some idea of what it looked like. Dimensions would be great also.

Yes, anyone have a pic/info on any of these? I have a 37CC and if those cables broke I'd be steering blind in the aft cabin via the quadrant.

Marc,
I'm out of town for the week, but if no one has posted a picture by the time I get back home I'll post one for you. There were 2 emergency tillers on board my boat when I bought her. One looks like the original and the other appears to be home made.

Marc,
Here's a couple pictures of the two that I have. One is aluminum, the home made one appears to be stainless steel.

Hope this helps.

The aluminum one is the same that is on my boat. This is probably the original.

I've thought about building one with a pivoting tiller extension to be able to steer my O'Day 32' CC from the cockpit through the companionway to the aft cabin.

To the center cockpit owners,
So I could steer from the cockpit I have fabricated a new emergency tiller from standard 1-1/4 electrical conduit known as EMT in the trade and the fittings to put the sections together are standard set screw fittings.
I made this because the original was designed that you'd be down below and blind steering listening to some one in the cockpit giving directions if some one else was aboard.
Ill be aboard this weekend and I will put it all together and snap a picture so you can get an idea

Emerg. tiller for 32 or 37 center cockpit

Here's the pictures of my set up.
The line is used to keep the tiller from falling down and it works well using your foot so you can still see while steering, the picture of the rusty pipe is the original that I found with the boat....don't think its the one that ODay supplied cause it looks like an auto tail pipe and the slot that was cut in it looks like someone did it with there teeth. and you would need another
person in the cockpit giving directions (I could visulized my wife and I trying this while dealing with two kids) :D
The one that I made was constructed with a galvanized pipe nipple for the section that goes into the rudder post cause it was a little more in outside diameter than the thin wall and I also wanted something a little stronger that wouldn't break from metal fatigue while underway and the duct tape was put on to give it a snug fit around the bolt and the inside diameter of the rudder post.
The whole system breaks down into two piece's and stores well out of the way in a spot that if I need it I'll go digging for it (under the aft sink)
For other Oday owners the same material could be used and built without welding
