Was looking at a deal for a Midland Radio - ER200 for $29 and wondered if it would be a useful weather device on a coastal cruiser. Would it add anything or just duplicate the weather warning functions of my VHF [Uniden Oceanus D]?
Maybe in the harbor, where you could leave it on and only get SANE alerts for your area. Out at sea, your much higher mounted VHF antenna will provide much better coverage.
I've got one similar and it is outmoded now. Use an app like Weather Radio on your cell phone and select the follow me function. It will alert you to conditions where you are and you can listen to the closest NOAA weather radio station through it or your VHF.
