Liferaft

Have not had to use a liferaft so far, but am impressed by Switlik's information and apparent attention to details. There is some question about getting a small (undersized) one so as to keep people huddled together & keep them warm. Too large a one, and people get tossed around inside them in rough weather. ( And when are you most likely to be using it?) Units I've priced are around $2000. new. There may be some available used , on ebay or through manufacturers for less. BoatUS also rents them to members if you want one for a particlular passage or period.

Winslow makes the best.....

...liferafts. No failures, according to "cruising world" survey... All the good liferafts are expensive. It's my understanding, but not my personal experience, that one can rent life rafts and epirbs for passage making.

Boat US has then for $50 week max 12 weeks

Don954, If you need it for more than 12 weeks, you may as well buy one. You need to order it about 2-3 weeks ahead of your trip. Go to http://www.boatus.com/foundation/EPIRB/ for more information. 46
