Eliminate wasp nest on Hunter 31

I have at least two entry points into my cabin headliner where wasps or some kind of mud daubers are nesting. They apparently get in thru a gap in the companionway hatch. How can I fog out or kill the buggers. Since they live on board they go sailing with us - not good.

We have had success with Ortho Home Defense. Spray around openings and our sail bag to keep them out of there.

some one said a while back that fabric sheets helped keep out the dirt dobers

My experience:

- Dryer sheets work pretty good for a little while. Good for as supplement to other remedies.

- Electronic pest repellents work great for wasps. they need to be plugged in and they make a hideous noise that will drive people nuts along with the bugs.

- I use a product called "Viper." It is odorless and persistent. Similar to Ortho Home Defense, but higher concentration of the good (bad, if you are a bug) stuff.

- By the way, I discovered Viper when trying to find a way to prevent the annual lady beetle infestation at my house. Works great for lady beetles and all other bugs, like wasps and carpenter bees.

Have some wasp spray on board. Spray their area to rid them.

We have used fabric softeners in the sail and in lockers. Seems to help.

I would think about some of that pipe insulation for the slider and rags in the track.

Thank you all. Very good information. Will try the strips and get some foam to close off the gaps in the slider. Regards, Jerry

trap

I used this long tube yellowish trap for wasps from home depot and worked great, had so many wasps in and around boat and could not go on the boat.
A few days with this trap and it got full and rid of wasps and around $16.00.
Worked great for sure.

both places, and best in early summer. Do every year to cut down on queens in or near your boat.

outside

I had 1000:eek::eek: wasp all over out side hiding every nook and cranny
and wound hide in boom and mast my inmast and just awful but this tube uses
some magic baiting liquid that draws them in and can't get out and die.
Works like magic and not cheap but worth it and still have it and just buy more liquid baiting and just hang off boom for a day or 2.

For those who have a ISOMAT boom you can purchase a cover of the aft end of the boom. It just snaps in place. It has kept the birds out and limits access for the wasps etc. The sheaves are still exposed but it is better.

I have often though about putting some mesh pockets on the inside of the main sail cover to place drier sheets.
