Tom, Welcome to the club. The depthsounder on my OD25 gave up the ghost recently. After some research I found that I could install a fishfinder that gives depth, water temp, bottom conditions, accepts a speed sensor and GPS accessories for about the same price as the depthsounder alone. The display unit is bigger than a depth gauge alone and I don't fish but the kids enjoy the 'show below'. Look for the Humminbird Matrix models at WM or other marine supply. Good luck.

Tom I have a Raytheon unit on my 23 and it works fine. Not a real expensive model but it has a variety of features to adjust as needed. I especially like the audible depth alarm and large digital display. Submerged islands and shoals are common and the warning has kept us from grounding on several occasions. The in-hull transducer is located just forward of the keel, near the centerline of the hull. Also has a quick release mount which allows for secure storage when not in use. Basic units can be had for under $100, more sophisticated for much more.
