I will be installing several electronics on my O'Day 222 soon. I would appreciate getting some advice as where they shouls be mounted in the cabin. If possible, I would like then to swing into cockpit view.
The items in question include: depth[ fish fonder ], VHF,& chart plotter.

Also, the spreader bases and the tips need tto be replaced.Where are such parts available. The mast was crafted by Z-Diffusion.

Thanks, Happy New Year.

My friend Wayne built his own swing out instrument encl osiers out of Starboard. I built a swing out bull horn using of a piece of Teak and a break away hinge. As for the spreader extrusions; Rudy at D&R Marine may have something at his shop, or he could point you in the right direction. http://www.drmarine.com/default.asp

foggycape,

Seem we have a number of 222 O'Day owners active on this forum. Welcome aboard. I have learned and received much help from the nice sailors who contribute. I had met Kapt10 jon from kokomo and have seen his wonderful 222. He made many changes and I need to give Jon credit for this one as I copied his idea.

I wanted these items on a removable panel. One of the nice improved 222 is the wide companion way so this worked perfectly.

Compass (at the top of course )
the four switches are AUTO PILOT- SPREADER LIGHT- COMPASS LIGHT- future anemometer display. The bottom button is a momentary switch ( SS door bell ) that turns on the battery condition meter. This allows me to see the amount of charge remaining on the battery
I fashioned a bracket with dual knobs to hold the whole panel in the slot for the companion boards. All the wires go through a HD trailer wire disconnect, female mounted to inside bulkhead while the male is on the panel (I had taken a pix of the inside cabin arrangement.. ) You can "e" me if you have questions>> crothert@gmail.com

That's a pretty neat arrangement, Chuck! I made a point of saving the pictures that Jon had posted of his O'Day 222 mods. He comes up with a lot of good ideas that I've managed to use on my boat. There is just no end to what can be done to these boats to personalize them.

Trinkky,

You have certainly had your share of neat ideas too. I have had the privilege to meet jon at the Bass Islands ( Put -In Bay to be exact ). He shows up every year at the Flocking of the Fleet ceremony. He is very inventive.

Wish I had pictures for you

I did a few things that have worked well with the 222. First, I created attachments for the VHF and the stereo by attaching oversized backing plates for the stanchions next to the companionway. The backing plates extend well beyond the stanchion holes (note I made sure that I sealed them well so that I don't get any leaks shorting out electronics) and then I hang the electronics off the plates. Second, I bought an aluminum swinging mount and attached it to the inside of the bulkhead (port side), and attached a mount for my GPS and also a mount for the fishfinder. It can swing out for display on in the cockpit, or it can swing back into the cabin when not in use. I've been really happy with how well it works. I looked for the mount on the West Marine site, but couldn't find it. It looks a lot like the product entitled "Swing Mount TO 60lb" on the West Marine site but there is only one pivot point. I looked for something similar on the Sailboatowners chandlery and didn't find anything.

I should have taken pictures but haven't and now the boat is covered up and stored for the winter so I don't have quick access to the boat.

Hey Chuck,
When will they hold the Flocking of the Fleet ceremony this year in Put-In Bay? I know a girl who lives in Columbus and owns a 1988 O'Day 222. She may want to show up for this and say hello to you guys.

Joe,
Here is another pix of us waiting to go up to Mr Eds for the Flocking of the Fleet in 06. We met again in 07 so around the 1st of June..

Pix shows Capt jon and JD sitting on the port side, jon in lt. blue tee. on a Sat afternoon at "C" dock that he always gets. This is the Kokomo 222 O' "APOGE". Sitting on the starboard side is brother Rick who lives on Put In Bay. In the very far background you can see the old BOARDWALK & MOSSBACK'S.
