I have a two part question. I am purchasing a Garmin 168 to use as a GPS/Sounder and had a question about how much time it takes to install using "shut thru the hull" or "thru hull" tranducers? I have a Hunter 260 WB and wanted to know where do I mount the transducer? If anybody has thoughts about thru vs. shoot thru transducers please let me know. The way I figure it, if I don't have to cut a hole in the boat then all the better.

Shoot thru under aft berth...

...( aft of ballast tank) is what Hunter recommends, and it worked for me. Bow location doesn't work; too much turbulent water flow up there. Glue down with silicone or epoxy, after test fitting in a bed of KY jelly to make sure there are no bubbles in the hull. Lots in the archives about this.

I have one

I have a Hunter 260 with a Garmin 168 that came with it. As it stands right now the transduce is mounted on the transum, and I don't like it there. I plan on moving it aft of the WB tanks as recommended by Hunter, I don't mind drilling a hole thru the hull, measure 10-15 time cut once. "Baums Rush"
