We have a Hunter 36 with a push button engine stop for a 3GM30. We have had problems with the stop button on the panel in the cockpit working properly. When it does not work, we pull the cable on the engine. We recently discovered that there was corrosion on the connections in the engine room at the rear of the Yanmar. After cleaning this, the kill button still did not work. So, then we discovered a relay that was also corroded, so we cleaned it. Then everything seemed to be fixed. However, unfortunately, a spring fell out of the relay and we never found it. So we replaced it with another relay that we thought was the same type of relay from Auto Zone. The Auto Zone relay stopped the Yanmar, but the alarm did not sound when the engine killed. The alarm will come on with the manual stop, but not the Auto Zone Relay. After, many questions to many people, we now believe that the panel is Yanmar and the unit on the back of the Yanmar is Yanmar, but there is a cable with a relay between the engine and the panel which was added by Mastri for Hunter and has a Tyco relay. This relay is suppose to be industrial strength and is suppose to have two functions; the kill engine and the alarm. So, we have ordered one of these relays and hope that this will operate the stop engine function properly. If it does, Hunter has said that they have these in stock so that we can get a spare. Hunter indicated to us that these push button units have been around since about 2003. Has anyone else experienced this?
