i recently purchased a H18.5 and i am interested in upgrading its electrical system to make "working" aboard and camping a bit easier. what i require is enough power to operate a weather radio, anchor lights, a few deck/cabin lights and my notebook w/o benefit of onboard generation or shore power (i know, why not install the hottub while i'm at it). so far i've found quite a few vendors who sell the solar components which should do the job but no doubt marine applications have special concerns i've not thought of. if anyone could offer some advice as to what are my best options i would be greatly thankful. cheers. Jim; Depending on the anchor light, it could drain the battery. Have you thought of a battery powered latern or something to hang out. As for the VHF, it does not draw that much but will when using it. Why not purchase a shore power type with an external plug so when the boat is home, all you do is plug it up. As for the solar panel, they are good but do check out the type. You may want to consider a dual battery system and possibly sereies 27 batteries. There is alot to what you are asking but the usage depends how much in time and money. One thing I will mention is that for some reason, cell phones plugged to a battery will difinetly drain them quickly. In March, you can call and I will be glad to tell you a few suggestions. Call Gregg at Hunter and he will give you phone number. I do let Gregg at Hunter to give my mnumber only in certain situations too help you folks out. Dave Condon
