I have a 93 Hunter 33.5 that has started having electrical problems. While underway I lose all electronics, VHF, autopilot and chartplotter for a few seconds and then they come back up.This has happened three times in the last 15 hours or so. I am also having an occasional problem when starting the boat on battery. I sometimes have to push the starter button 3 - 4 times before it will crank, and when it wont crank, the idiot lights go dim.I am being told that I have a bad ground somewhere.I have checked the battery connections and the DC main breaker and they appear ok. Question, where else do I look ? Thanks.

Electrical Problem
You should be able to find a ground wire attached to either a position on the block/bell housing/transmission that could work loose over time. I just substituted a nylock nut and no more problam. Good Luck - Dan N.

Thanks for the reply. I just checked the boat and found the ground to be in perfect condition, like new with no corrosion, bolted to the starter motor.I did clean the battery terminals and cables,four golfcarts,and hope that will fix the problem.I have also written to Hunter asking their tech guys for advice. Thanks again.

Just to make you crazy
You could also have a hot or ground wire which is starting to corrode in side the jacket, typically due to moisture intrusion . The corrosion will limit the flow of electricity. That kind of problem is really fun to find.

And, be sure to check
your battery selector switch. With your stuff turned on, wiggle the cables and the selector knob and see if the problem occurs at that time.
