I'm in the process of restoring a '80 H22, although it will require many replacements & repairs the electrical panel is in sad shape. It seems like the original, a 3 circuit panel with a meter. I'd like to go with at least a 6 position panel as I will be adding a bilge pump, marine radio etc. I'd like your input on which type of panel to use, i.e., fused, breaker, analog or digital meter. Also I don't like the current location @ starboard a couple inches from the floor. I'd like to hear of suggestions for a better location and if I can junction the existing location wiring to the new location or whether all new wiring is necessary. Is there anyone that has or knows of wiring diagram for this boat? Thanks for your suggestions. Pete

Just Finished H27 Re-wire

Not familiar with H22, but just finished a complete re-wire of 1979 H27, including panel. Re-did all AC and DC wiring. My boat is kept in salt water so I limited the exposed bus bars and junction panels to one. Used all stranded wiring as recommended by AYBS. I used a 6 switch fused panel instead of a breaker panel. Again, salt air exposure. I know what it does to my shore power breakers. You can put your switch panel anywhere you wish, just remember you will have to be able to run wire to it, access it for maintenance and fill the hole where the original was located. I personally feel it is best to locate it with the battery switch. Good luck with your project. Mine took approximately 30 hours of labor, two trips up the mast, many bruised knuckles and a blister on my knee. That being said, I love the results.

control panel (electrical)

Hello, I read that you have recently rewired your 1979 27' control panel. I am now deciding whether to buy a 1981 Hunter 27' for the price of Winter storage ($800.00). Otherwise in great shape. There was fresh water damage in the cabin that got to the bottom three inches (why they put it there is someting I don't get)of the electrical control panel (wires look fine)I took panel out. I am wondering two things: If you know (from top to bottom) the amp amounts of each function of the panel. And if you think this is an expensive job to undertake. I miss the views of the Puget Sound and taking the ferry to and from the mainland, it is the most beautiful place I ever lived! Tom

new panel and wiring for h-22

I have just completed the rewiring of my 22. The original panel was a 6 breaker panel. Each of the circuts was fused for 15 amps. My boat only used 4 of the six. I added a bilge pump, a cd stereo, and a pump for the water tank(when I hit the switch the sink turns on like at home). All new wiring was pulled by me and wasn't that hard. The new panel was fairly easy to put in. The only problem i had was the fact that i am not exactly a small person and you have to spend a little time under the sink area. I have Hunter's original wiring diagram for the H-22 that i will be glad to make copies of and send to anyone who would like one. Just email jhiebl@everestkc.net Jim
