electrical help in the mast

Have a irwin 28' im working on the mast lights, the base wires have been cut, so i have red, green, black, white. i need to know whitch wire is what for...also i dont think its right but on the mast side i have continuity from the green wire to the mast...im going to change the range light and mast/head light in next few days...any input will be helpfull thank you.

I suspect that the Green wire is a mast ground which should be connected to the keel for lightening protection, but I'm not an electrician so I hope someone else jumps in here.

Of the others, the red and black should be a pair for one light (the red being hot) and the other white makes a pair with the black for the other light. I suspect that both lights use the same ground (black). If your lights are good you can check the continuity through the light and verify that. If the continuity check doesn't work you can attach the suspected leads to a battery and check voltage at the gruond. At 12 volts you are not going to hurt anything.

it has large gauge black wire that runs up center of mast for lightning protection to i dont think the green wire should have continuity to the mast, i am trying to find a scematic today to check it out, just hope someone has same boat with same wires...

I 28 also

hi - I read your post on the mast wiring for your I28 (better late than never!). I have the same boat - centerboard model - and noting works on my mast. Were you ever able to locate a wiring diagram? If so, if you could share it, I'd appreciate it. I haven't gotten to running a continuity check yet but suspect when I get there my issues will get narrowed down.
