Electrical fire update

Its been a couple of months since I had an electrical fire on board.Tomorrow Mathiesen marine starts the repair. It will include:
new panel with energy monitor
new 80 amp Balmar alt
4 group 31 agm batteries
1 group 27 agm start battery
new starter
all wiring replaced
Everything brought up to ABYC standards including FUSED batteries and all components protected.


I also have the boat out of the water taking care of everything below the waterline. I want to give State Farm Ins a big shout out as they have stepped up and I have had the check for repairs for a couple of weeks with no problems at all. I should be ready to go sailing in a couple of weeks which is just in time for the AC 45s that will be flying up and down the bay.

Yes, you should. It's quick, easy and relatively inexpensive.

I fused both batteries on Abracadabra a week ago (meant to do it last year and forgot!). The two fuse holders and three 175A fuses (1 spare) were about $80. Took all of about a half hour to install, and that was because I had to run down to the local WM for 3/8" nuts and lockwashers.

In the process of fusing the batteries, I also replaced all the wing nuts with stainless nuts and washers.
