Electrical Connection Help

Just purchased a 78 Hunter 30 and learning the systems. There is a sensor in the bilge just forward of the most forward keel bolt. The wire is corroded off. The speedometer does not work but the previous owner stated the paddle wheel was on the hull near the side of the keel on the port side. Any input on what the sensor/ connection is.

Could be a transducer for a depth Sounder?

If it's a green wire or single stranded wire it's just the keel bond wire. They seem to usually mount at that location

I agree with Tom and it's also possible it could be a combo transducer/temp sensor. How many conductors in the cable?

It's a single, multi strand conductor. I'll take a better look at it and hey some pictures.

My guess -- Lightning ground connection to the keel -- also minimizes the corrosion if the boat has adequate zincs.

Some keels actually have pocks in the metal from pesky corrosion issues .
