I have a Lewmar windlass on my 34 with 125' chain and i use it all the time. If you still need the model, let me know. I'll have to check.

I have a shallow anchor rode compartment. Is your windlass a horizontal or vertical. And if you don't mind let me know which model. Thanks

it's horizontal. it's a pro-series Lewmar. if you need more than that I'll have to look at the boat.

I spend nearly 100 nights a year on the hook. I'm a widow by myself. I absolutely love this windlass.

my P34 has a shallow deck locker where I keep a small danforth plus long mooring lines. there is a chain locker all the way forward of the vee berth. I think the weight of the chain pulls it down into the locker. I don't know how it would feed into a shallow deck locker.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Did you install windlass yourself? What year your boat and is it a 34-2 by any chance?

Recent widow myself looking to buy a 34-2 Pearson but it is windlass-free so I plan to install one myself as will be on hook a lot. My setup similar to yours. Any advice?

I am also interested in adding a windlass as we are in the process of acquiring a Pearson 36 which is windlass free. We don't anchor much in the great lakes but we plan on eventually moving the boat to the Atlantic and will need to fit it out for that type of sailing.

Mary Joy is a 1985 P34. As far as advice, I have tons of anchoring advice, but I think you mean just about installation. The windlass was installed by the boatyard. There are two buttons on the bow plus a switch in the cockpit. As a solo sailor, i use the ones on the bow the most often, but sometimes i need to be in the cockpit for part of the operation. so i think having the option is important. My husband insisted we get this as he was tired of hauling up anchors on our previous boats. we would anchor with me at the helm and him on the bow. now that i'm a widow, i can't imagine not having the windlass. it's one of the best improvements we could have made to our boat. One problem I've had is the rode running out when i'm at anchor. yeah! i figured out there is a big nut-like thing on the windlass. that nut can get loose over time and when there's a strain on the rode it let go. i think my husband used to just tighten it with his hand and i knew nothing. my hands are not strong enough to really honk it down so i use a strap wrench. after i've been at anchor a few days and am ready to weigh anchor i use the wrench to tighten up. now i have never had that problem again. I hope I answered your question.

BTW, as a fellow single-handed sailor destined for the sea, I will definitely follow your posts.
