Once you do this, you may as well just have that little diesel running the prop and not pollute the earth with those batteries that need to be shipped to Asia to be recycled because of the laws in the USA not allowing this type of pollution to happen on our shores.

I agree that these electric systems like Hunter is selling are fine for lake sailing, but they will not work well for the areas that we traverse between the California Delta to the SF Bay. (50-60 miles against a flood tide & wind on the nose)
The batteries I am using come from the East Penn Co.,
supposedly they are able to recycle 100% of the batteries returned
to their factory, in Pennsylvania USA.

I once sailed out through the 'Golden Gate' and on to Tahiti
without once using the motor for propulsion, except for exiting
and entering the ports. But you are correct that no all electric
system will power for 60-80 miles in the 'Bay', or even 6-8 miles
in my case.

Any motor saves us the waiting for wind and tide to enter or leave a port. We never hear the warning,"we sail with the tide". But two hundred years ago before steam tugs ships and boats entered and departed harbors at the whim of the wind and the tides.

Cool:

Yes you return to batteries to Penn. and they ship them to China or India and then the US decides that their polution problem is caused by those American capitalists that have no regard for the environment. The price of batteries are then taxed at $.50/lb......

Just being an A.H., but you get the picture. <G>

So what you are saying Ross is

When you abandon the gas motor and embrace the electric we need to become better sailors as that is our primary means of propulsion.

I'm all for that

I am wondering if anyone has recent experience with a diesel to
electric repower? I know past posts haven't been to favorable. I did find some european sites but not to many here in the US. Youtube has some videos but the guy seems like a c*cky bozo.
Marc, contact Sally Reuther at AHM, you'll get good honest results.
