I have an '87 H23 with the plastic toggles on my panel box. One of them broke and I'd like to replace them with something stronger. Can I just replace the toggles or would I need to replace the whole panel box. If so can anyone suggest a good replacement box?

New Box

I broke 3 of them on my 1988 H23. I bought a new panal with lighted rocker switches at West Marine for $30. It had one more circuit too. I had to run a black wire from the negative to the black wire on the panal, otherwise every is straight forward. You can do the whole job in 15 minutes. Just a new switch was $5 at Radio Shack. West Marine didn't have any that matched. I never did like the toggle switches. The new lighted switches are bright. This helps me to remember to shut all of them off when I leave the boat. Replace the panal, you won't be sorry. Lee "Merri-Lee"

Toggle Switch Replacement

Mike, I had the same problem as you on my 85 H23 (My Son knocked his knee on the flange breaking it). I found it easy to by a simple SPDT switch at any of the local Chandlerys (about $7.00 a switch) and replace it. I did need to sand some of the box to fit the new switch in but it took only 15 Minutes. If you by the right switch with the spade contacts, the Box wiring will fit right in. I thought about replacing the box but I'm on a budget and just ground down the Keel and re-sealed... Good Luck, /Chuck S/V Windsongs H23

Panel Boxes

When I rebuilt my 23, I built a bigger box and put in two switch panels. I found them in a close-out bin at Boat US for under twenty. One was a five switch panel w/ a cig. lighter and battery monitor that wasn't too much bigger than the stock and it was easy to install. Nice to have the lighter for accessories too!

Replacement Toggle switches

Mike: I found the replacement toggle switches at Advance Auto Parts for about $3 each last summer. Perfect fit but the toggles are longer and stronger. The parts aren't marinized but then the original ones in the boat aren't either. - Kevin.

done it !

Thanks for all the input. I replaced the whole panel with a $36- one from West Marine. Looks great, switchs light up when they are on. Piece of cake to install.
