Does anyone have any experience with an electric outboard on a C-22 instead of gas? Boat will be at mooring buoy and only have to motor 100 yards to clear the marina. Practicle? or no. Thanks.
I have a 3.0hp gas motor and feel that it is way under powered. If I'm heading into the wind at times the boat will stay in one place. If the horsepower of an electric motor is more than 5 or 6 it should be fine.P.S. Are you selling any 8.0hp gas outboards?
I have a 17 lb thrust minnKota in the hatch of my C-22 in case of. It clips to the electrical studs I set up in the fuel locker running to the battery, usually used to charge the battery from the elec. head on my Nissan 6 hp. So far haven't used it. The aux. power should also be able to get you out of a dodgey situation, don't you think?
We use a minkota electric for our (only) outboard. It is really good. Plenty of power to take us the hundred yards out of the marina several times a day, and hold into the wind. I didn't buy a deep-cycle battery, either. Just take the Bi-Mart battery off my tractor on sailing days. I really love the silent running.
