Catalina 30 Puget Sound
Starting to get cold here in the Puget Sound. I know it's a lot colder other places, but I need a good heater. I've tried ceramic, heater fans, and others. Nothing seems to get the job done. None of them seem to blow more than 12 inches. Who has found a great electric heater that they would highly reccommend? I need to get this Catalina 30 up to 65 degrees. Thanks, Sean

For live aboard heat?

Or moisture control? If its for live aboard heat try an in wall register type heater. If its for moisture control there are several low watt heat/fan units that do not pose a fire hazard if left unattended for long periods.

Lasko 5150

I use this Lasko model 5150 ceramic at home, and am happy with its output. I am going to try one on my boat. Being a tower model, it is less stable than the low flat, wire coil model that I have on the boat now, but the Lasko has a shutoff switch in the base in case of tip over. Also, being a tower design it will take up a little less floor space. I got it at Lowes for forty some dollars. The problem I think we have, is that most electric portable heaters run only to 1500 watts maximum, which can only produce so much heat. With the standard 30 amp dock power, I can't even run two of them, or one plus my water heater. I might be able to run one at full power, and a second one at the half power setting. That would also help to spread the heat out. I really don't want to get into fuel heaters for various reasons, but that would be the logical answer for more heat.

Try a Camping Outlet

We have had this problem downunder. After asking around we invested in a Coleman Gas (Propane) Heater (made in America). We run it off a 9kg gas bottle and it is great. Warms up our C380. These heaters can be purchased through Camping/Outdoor retailers for approx. A$120.00. The 9kg bottle lasts up to 2 months and we use it constantly.
