I have a 2001 Catalina 400(Hull #233) and ordered an electric head installed at the Largo factory when the boat was built. Have not used the head that much but lately is has started leaking(and smelling). I am trying to find the source of the leak.Plan to put some water in the head tomorrow and try to find leak. Based on the smell it would seem it is coming from the tank. Can you share the common problems with electric heads? The unit is two years old and do they have seal problems normally? Do you need the make of the unit? Any help would be appreciated. Bill

Make/model of toilet?

I'm guessing it's a Jabsco...which one? Is the odor worse with the first flush after the boat has been sitting for a while? (And btw, it's highly doubtful that the odor is coming from the holding tank.) Where's it leaking? Have you done anything to it except use it?

Raritan Electric Head

The electric head in my Catalina 400 is a Raritan. It appears that the leak is at the base of the unit but I cannot tell yet. Any thoughts on what to check and do next? Thanks, Bill

Most likely a hairline crack

In the pump housing, which is very unusual for a Raritan toilet, especially one no older than that. I suggest you give Vic Willman at Raritan call to discuss it--not because I want to duck the issue, but because THEY want to know about failures that shouldn't happen, and usually take care of customers who've had them very well. 800-352-5630.

Found the leak

Sorry to bother you, Peggie. When I finally got around to filling the bowl with water and start the electric head I saw water coming out of the top of the pump and running down where I had only been looking. At the top of the pump is a one inch nut that had become loose with use. I just tighten up the nut and now no leak. Nothing wrong with the unit. I'll just have to check it more in the future depending on use. Thanks for Vic's name. I'll keep it on file if needed in the future. Also, thanks for your time. Bill

That shouldn't have happened either

I still think you ought to have a chat with Vic.
