I have a few of questions for you Hunter owners. 1. I have a 1980 Hunter 27 with a Reanult RC8 and would like replace the fuel system with a newer remote filter and an electric fuel pump. Can I use any electric fuel pump with about the same deliver presure? 2. Has anyone replaced the main sheet system with a traveler and does it improve the ability to point higher? 3. Is the glassed in backing plate under the deck for the addition of jib track ? 4.Has anyone used a main with a larger roach than the origional and reduced the jib? What were the results?

Fuel pump

I installed a low pressure fuel pump into my fuel system between the tank and the Racor filter. this is with a Yanmar 3GM30F. The low pressure, in the vacinity of 2.5 PSI was installed based on advice from Larry Berlin of Mack Boring / Engine City Tech. He says a higher pressure pump will cause smoking. I haven't figured out why, but he's the guru and I'm just the wrench. Of course all bets are off with the Renault, but I don't see what harm a low pressure pump would do used only as a lift pump

Main sheet traveler

On my 1980 H27, I had a stainless steel arch made of 1/4 " by 3" stainless and put a 4' traveler track on it. It is about 5 inches high and fits on the same pads and uses the same screws as the original pulley system. It gives me enough headroom to go below without hitting my head. As for performance, it is definitely better than the old pulley system. With the original I couldn't hold the boom in line with the center of the boat. Closest was 5-10 degrees. Now I can even take it past the centerline. Does it help - yes quite a bit for the main. Does it mean you can point much closer? Not really. The H27 with outboard stays means you can't sheet the jib in tight with a good shape. Thus you can't point anyway. Would I do it again? Yes. I like being in control. I have a blown out main so when I replace it I may see more improvement. Let me know if you want digital photos of what I did. wrenninger3@comcast.net

Thank you

I bought this boat off Ebay for $2k. I thought it was a buy, but I should have looked at it closer. I have replace the cockpit floor part of the deck, and two stringers in the main cabin. Repainted the deck, installed a new off shore panel, total rewire, ect. The list is endless including pulling the toe rails and recalking with 10 tubes of 5200.( I have 900 Hours in labor so Far) No leaks now, but i was sure the engine would not run. I installed a new head gasket and injector o-ring. fired it up and it runs!!! Actually very well. The fuel pump issue was addressed because I just knew that it would not work: It Did. Considering it was 20 feet under water for three weeks, and had been unused for five years I am impressed. Thanks again for the information.
