Lots of different ways marinas do this. Some have it included in the basic fee. Others have individual meters. Some have a flat fee for elect., and some have a flat fee for slip rentals, and another for live aboards, or those who run AC all the time. Last time I lived aboard full time, is S.Texas, was individually metered slips, and my elect. was six or seven bucks a month. But that was a few years ago.

It really depends on the marina fees...some include electricity and some are less expensive and charge on the meter. I guess it's just like an apartment...some include utilities, some don't. Mine doesn't charge extra. But they do for live-aboards. Steph

In my yard, they never used to charge for electric. Last year, they implied they would start charging based upon the metered rate but didn't - the supposition being that if they threatened, many of those who choose to leave their A/C running constantly regardless of whether they were there, might get more reasonable. Apparently, they didn't.
Now, they included in the upcoming season's contract a rate of $50/power cord.
It is in large part a sign of the times with rates skyrocketing. In some part, I'm sure it's a result of our power boater brothers leaving their A/Cs on constantly.

That is a very location based question 
Here on Long Island it is all extra with some even having meters for the BIG boats
In winter storage you pay electric and cant leave it pluged in if you not there becasue of fire risk and you pay extra for days of de-icing

It depends on the marina, and how it is setup. Some marinas charge based on the meter, and have electrical meters installed for each shorepower post. Others charge a flat fee for the month or season. It also depends on the type of service. Some provide the basic 30 Amp service for free but charge for the 50 Amp service.

In Eastport we have no marina's. Everything is under the control of the Port Authority/ Harbor Master. Moorings are $16.00 a year, slips are, resident $15.00 per foot, non resident $ 26.25 per foot per season. Our season, because of the bad fall weather is from June 01 to Oct 01. Electrical charge for 120V is $25.00 220V is $50.00 per season. Electrical service per day iS $3.00 for 120V and $6.00 for 220V. We have no water supply at the boat slips.

Most here use electric meters for each boat.
However, at mine the charge for electric and water is included in the dock fees.

Thanks for all the responses so far. I'm negotiating with my harbor to wave or reduce the extra "utility" fee for people that are using electric for auxiliary propulsion. I'm probably using less than $4 a month to keep my batteries charged. The extra fee is $38 per month. Seems odd to penalize a Green Technology these days. I'm sure this issue will be worked out and all of your responses are very helpful to me, thanks.

I know that just within a very small radius, (less then 5 miles) It seams here in CT they all charge a little differently. Mine is included in slip fee, while others charge on a meter and some others charge by the connection (so much for one 30 amp more for a second 30 amp and even more for a 50 amp) there is even one marina that charges $500 then will rebate you at the end of the year if the electric bill was "in line". Seams to be what ever the owner wants to do at least here in my area. I do know that to make a fair comparison you will need to compare total cost. I did that with two marinas. One had simple flat fee that includes everything, electric,water and dinghy storage at dinghy dock while another one broke it down to slip rental, water, electric and dinghy storage. Bottom line is there was a $5 difference between the two for my boat. Go figure !
