I just bought a 1980 Catalina 25. Right now there is a manual bilge pump accessed from the cockpit. I want to put in an electric bilge pump as I plan to keep the boat in the water this winter. Can you recommend a brand/installation process?

Bilge Pump Installation

I had a Par-brand pump installed yesterday. The previoius one lasted 22 years! You can buy them through any of the marine products companies. Mine pumps 6 gallons per minute. Since I moved here from Annapolis some time ago, remember to ensure you have a bubbler system at your Marina if you are keeping your boat in the water this winter.

Hows your battery?

I've got a Rule pump, works great. If you are going to rely on this thing make certain that you have a way to keep the battery charged.

My boyfriend is an electrican--do you think we could install a pump ourselves or is this something I should hire someone to do?

I've got electicity at the marina so I should be ok. Did you install the pump yourself? If not, do you remember how much you paid to have it installed?
