I have a Catalina 30, 1983 with the four battery setup. A circuit breaker tripped when the shore air conditioner was plugged into a duplex receptacle in the v-berth.. The problem is the manual places the breakers on the aft, galley bulkhead. They are not there! Does anyone know the location of these breakers? Am thanking you in advance... Jim

Electrical Problem

Jim, I have a 84 Catalina 30. The only AC circuit breaker is located on the electrical panel at the nav station. On my boat it is labeled "hot water heater" and contyrols all the AC outlets. Hope this helps. Let me know how you make out. Regards, Denny Fegan

Phantom Circuit Breaker

I'm not sure they installed a breaker on many of the early boats or many left production w/o AC wiring and the PO did a self install. I have a 1984 C-30 that had a similar problem. On my nav station I have one 30 amp main breaker (toggle) and a breaker for the hot water heater (push botton type). The five AC outlets were wired directly to the 30 amp breaker. I modified my AC system to the following run. Shore power in to the 30 amp breaker, 30 amp breaker to a new panel with four 15 amp breakers (port outlets, starboard outlets, battery charger, & air conditioner). I mounted this panel on the forward end of the nav station right about the shelf and pin rail.

Elecrical Problem

Mark, thanks for the reply. You describe my nav area beautifully. Of the five duplexes, 4 are OK. The one in the v-berth tripped. I can not find a reset for it. When I plugged the AC in, I actually heard very feintly a breaker trip. I just can not find it. ? Jim

Circuit Breaker???

Hey Jim, are you sure it was a breaker click and not too many amps running through the wire (draw from the AC unit)that caused the wire or the outlet to fail? Kinda, scary thought, but I don't know why you would have power to 4 out of 5 outlets, when they are most likely on the same breaker. The vintage of our boats, Catalina did not install a breaker for each outlet. I traced my AC wires and they run from the Nav Station to an outlet in the galley, to the port outlet, to the head outlet, then to an outlet on the starboard side of the V-berth. The lone starboard setee outlet runs from the Nav Sation. By chance are any of the outlets GFCI?

Mark. Tx. for the response,. Today I replaced the duplex and it still does not work. My manual states there are two circuit breakers. I know logic tells us there should be more than one duplex per breaker. I guess I may have to do some tracing of the lines. Tx. Mark Jim
