I recently bought a new-to-me 1992 H28 that has a Furlex drum. Inside the foil is an elastic line that the manual calls a Pre Feeder. Does anyone know what this is used for? It has developed lumps which indicates (to me) that it is deteriorating. Should I replace it while my mast is down?

Furlex

I suggest calling Selden Customer service and asking them. 1-843-760-6278 x 203. They have been helpful to me on the phone. There are also Furlex reps in Falmouth and Harbor Side, Me that you may want to call. Let me know if you need their phone numbers. Let us know what you find out.

The Prefeeder

The prefeeder, as the name suggests, is supposed to pre- feed your jib while you are hoisting it up. Slide the little "paws" over the tape of the sail that goes int the grove of the foil, than slide it int the foil track and stard hoisting it. That's it. Did I ever use it ? No. But you may find it helpfull. Hope this helps.
