Jimmy Buffett passed away last night. So in honor of him and his music i thought I would start this post. What is your favorite life advice you got from a Jimmy Buffett song. I have many But I will start with two.

Read dozens of books about heroes and crooks,
And I've learned much from both of their styles.

Mother, mother ocean, after all the years I've found
My occupational hazard being my occupation's just not around

Fair, winds and following seas.

Indeed! Jimmy used to perform at LSU here in Baton Rouge..A few of my buds and I would take a small generator, a stereo, a blender and tropical string lights and set up in the line waiting for the ticket office to open so we'd get prime seats.. We usually got there around 6 PM the day before the window opened and stay the night having marguretas and listening to music.. I remember some college kids saying "You old farts really know how to bring a party!".

Bummed out Parrothead here. Jimmy cut his teeth in New Orleans French Quarter before moving on to Nashville, Austin, & Key West.
He knew how to live life & have a good time; those themes were reflected in his music. Turned the "Margaritaville" lifestyle into a $500M enterprise. He will be missed. :(

We are all saddened by the passing of Jimmy Buffett last night. He was a great entertainer, an insightful song writer, and a compassionate humanitarian.

Share your thoughts and memories here. Several threads have been started and they will all be merged into this thread.

"Cameron's contemplating, I'm not sure just what he thinks
Is my dad some kind of lunatic with his stories and hijinks?
Then he says when I get old and gray and feel like I'm marooned
He will take me in his rocket ship to that beach house on the moon"

Enjoy the view, Sailor.

Lines from a couple of his songs could describe my life: "Some of it's magic and some of it's tragic, but I had a good life all the way" from "He went to Paris" on his Banana Wind album. But this one is my favorite:
"I suppose that the need to focus never arose...my life is something like a Swiss army knife."

Hoping the cheeseburgers are always just how he likes 'em in the paradise in which he's anchored now.

His advice that I took to heart forty three years ago:
"Forget your blind ambition and learn to trust your Intuition..."
From "Cowboy in the Jungle", Son of a Son of a Sailor album.

Sent from the cockpit of
S.V. Intuition with a bottle of Pussers rum beside me.

I'm growing older but not up
My metabolic rate is pleasantly stuck
Let those winds of time blow over my head
I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead

Words that many of us here on SBO seem to live by.

(We need a Margarita emoji. Who's in charge here?)

Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call
Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall
You've seen it all, you've seen it all
Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam
And in your belly, you hold the treasures few have ever seen
Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream
Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred years too late
The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder
I'm an over-forty victim of fate
Arriving too late, arriving too late ...

On a five day sailing cruise many moons ago, I brought my collection of Jimmy Buffet cassette tapes. Yes, that long ago. After three days of JB, the crew held a mutiny and hid all my tapes for the remainder if the trip. WTF? Gonna miss that guy. RIP, Jimmy. :(
