We have a 1983 C-30 which we bought last year. We have an oe Edson wheel and this year have noticed a distinct "pull" to Port when motoring, but does not seem to be a problem when on a reach under sail. I checked and lubricated the cable noting that there is very marginal slack where it attaches to the steering quadrant. I'd appreciate any suggestions or feedback from anyone who has had similar problems and been able to correct the problem. I note that when I attempt to use the auto helm, it seems to overcompensate steering us all over the harbour...so need to fix problem number one first. (Note that when originally installed, the ST 4000+ Autohelm had no problem maintaining a course). Cheers, Barry

Propwalk

Sounds more like propwalk, although you would have experienced that from the beginning, whenever you are motoring. Its perfectly normal (it is even more pronounced when reversing), although it takes some time to get used to it and use it to your advantage when manoeuvering in tight spots. Under what conditions is your ST4000 erratic? It is known not to function very well in heavy chop. You may also have to recalibrate it (manual explains that, quite easy to do). Another possible reason may be (a long shot) that you placed metal objects very close to the autopilot's electronic compass. Hope that it is one of these easy to solve issues....) Good luck and have fun with the boat.

ST4000+ Problem

I have problems with my ST4000+ when I first start motoring. I sometmes think it needs to relearn to navigate. I do change my sensativity to "2" when corrects the problem in most situations.
