Edson steering cable tension adjustment.

Fellow sailors, I recently had to loosen the steering cable tension during a clutch cable replacement on my h30. Since I have completed the service I've noticed an oscilation of the wheel at about 4.5 knts and above. (This oscilation wasn't present before the cable readjustment) I suspect the cable tension may be low. Has anyone had experience with this? I have an Edson system, but no specifics on cable tension or technique. Cheers, Bob Alden

proper tension

It has been my understanding that the tension should be based on 1/4" play for every 1 foot of length of the cable. So, a 3 foot span of cable should have 3/4" lateral slack. Someone please correct this if I'm wrong.
