Edson steering brake problem

My steering brake is completely non-functional. The boat is a 2001 320 (with the Edson rack and pinion). I have searched the archives and found that I am not alone but there didn't seem to be any solution posted. As I work the knob, I can get a metalic "clink" sometimes, but no brake action. The previous owner indicated that it did actually work in the past. The real problem is that I can not see how to get this apart to even see what the problem is, does anyone know? Thanks, Gary

Contact Edson

Contact Edson. I had the same problem with mine, they have pictures and manuals online and you can also phone them and talk to the service dept.

Wheel brake

Hard to see but stem of knob attaches to brake with a sleeve and two bolts to tighten it. This may be your problem if sleeve is slipping If this is ok ( stick head or mirror into pedastal to check this) then you may need to rebuild the brake Edson carries kits for this t.

Edson is real helpful!

Thanks guys, I e-mailed Edson Tech Support and they responded immediately with the Tech Bulletin that explains the repair. Unfortunately, it is buried inside (BTW Tony, this is the rack and pinion system, the older chain drive fixes and repair kit are all over the web but this one isn't). This might have to wait a couple weeks at least, I will post the outcome for the archives at least. Thanks again, Gary H320 TimeBandit Alameda, CA
