Edson Pedistal Installation Help

Hi All,

I have a 1984 Catalina C-27 that I would like to change-over from tiller to an Edson Pedistal Steering system. I was lucky enough to pick-up an entire system from a damaged boat, but it was already removed and I have no idea how to install it.

If anyone out there has any experience in installing one I would really love some helpful suggestions.

Edson has detailed installation drawings and instructions for all boats. I would start there and then seek help on the finer points.

The people at Edson are extremely helpful and will answer all questions. Give them a call......

at all with your boat, but a friend of mine has a Newport 27 that has been converted from tiller to wheel. Eveything works fine, but the floor is a little weak on his boat, and needs to be beefed up a little. If you use the wheel for levrage when standing up for instance, the floor around the pedestal flexes a little. There may be something wrong with his, or yours may be totally different, but might be worth checking. Catalina should be very helpful.

I had an ODay 30 that was converted from tiller to wheel. The way they combated this problem was to glass in a peice of 3/4 marine plywood under the cockpit floor.

Edson Pedestal retro-fit

Bill - Haven't installed one, but am trying to re-do the installation of a pedestal put on my boat by a previous owner. Too much stuff to list here, but if you email me thru this site, I can send you some photos of my installation etc.
