Edson engine controls

I'm not wanting to start the T vs W debate again, but IF someone was comtemplating installing the Edson wheel conversion, will their engine controls work on a Honda 9.9 4 stroke? The catalog only alludes to inboard motors like Atomics or Yanmars. I think the Honda controls are pretty pricey (yes, so are Edson's) but IF one had the Edson pedestal it appears their controls would integrate better than the Honda. So, since I want to get remote control for my Honda, I'm trying to decide if I first need to figure out about the other thing (T vs W). Thanks, Jim Covey

Ron H26.5 Fantasy

Jim, I have an Edson "Pull-Pull" wheel conversion on my H26.5. Engine controls are the stock Edson units for my pedestal with 11 ft cables hooked up to a 10hp Honda 4 stroke (1992 version) When I tilt the motor up I have to disconnect the cables at the motor so they don't get in a bind. That's as simple as lifting two levers. Other than that, they work just fine. If you can hold off until this weekend I can take pictures of the hook up and send to you. One thing I didn't think about. I have a 24" destroyer wheel which won't let me get into the lazerette without taking off the wheel. Should have went with an 18 or 20".

Thanks

Ron, Thanks for the info. I would appreciate you providing some pics when you have a chance. No rush on anything as I'm not plunking any money down for a while yet. Good info on the wheel diameter, I was wondering if there would be any problems with the 24" (either too small or too big). Jim

Jim, my 25.5 has a edson w/honda 9.9 contols

The previous owner added a edson wheel with controls to my honda 9.9. He used a honda remote control kit. I just replaced both the throttle and shift cables. Got universal cables at West Marine. The whole set up works great! Looks factory. The only thing I have added was a wp5000 simrad autopilot. Ted

Honda

The 2000 Honda changed. If you get the one with tiller, you will not be able to modify it for wheel steering. I found out the hard way and even Honda USA was left holding the bag when I questioned them. As for the remote, you can get that of course with the side box. >I am not sure if you can modify that one for the wheel steering. YOu will not be able to put any tiller on it but probably you can figure a link with the rudder post to turn it along with the rudder. Crazy sippin enough Tequila

Older Honda

Thanks Dave, as always your insight is most appreciated. I think I'll be lucky because my Honda is a '95 model. Thanks for your help. Jim
