As the title says, how do I go about removing the compass from my Edson post? I see no screws or set screws, and tried turning it, but don't want to break it..

One commonly used is the Danforth Constellation, these have a small black plastic light fixture on top. The 2 small Phillips head screws holding the light also hold down the body shell (stainless or black crinkled paint) which lifts off to reveal the mounting.

When I make it back up to the boat I will get a picture of it. It is an off white plastic housing that seems to rise about 5-6 inches above the metal tube of the Edson.

The 3 outer screws on the black ring of the compass, 120 degrees apart, hold it to the off-white barrel or ring. There may be some sealant from a PO as well, so you might have to gently pry the compass up. Once the compass is removed from the off-white ring, you will see there are 4 more machine screws inside that hold the off-white ring to the top of the pedestal. The compass and off-white ring would have been by Hunter - the rest is a stock Edson pedestal. Pedestal manual is online at their web site.
