Is there a easy way to adjust my cable on my 1981 H-36 Edison steering to take up the slop on the cable...Cant get to the nuts and bolts on the rudder quadrant..

The only way...

I know is to remove the cockpit sole above the quadrant, back off the lock nuts, take up the slack with the adjusting screws, retighten the locknuts, and replace the cockpit sole. What's keeping you from getting to the quadrant? Gary Wyngarden S/V Shibumi H335

Step 2

in addition to the previous step, check the cable/chain splice for tightness within the pedestal. Also, is that the original or imitation Edison steering? You can tell by whether Thomas misspelled his last name as Edson. Don

While you're at it...

Since you've already got the floor removed now, get some tissue paper in your hands and run it along the cable. If the tissue shows any barbs sticking out it's time to get a new cable. I got mine direct from Edson, I think it was about $60 with shipping for a similar sized boat. Paul sv Escape Artist h336

Hi Gary, I check our sterring cables for barbs...

too. My last step I applied a light coat of teflon (non-petroleum) grease. Terry
