Halyards back.

Funny you should mention the Owner's Directory, I just posted Phil about that problem. And I do plan to run four lines back, the two halyards plus a third attached to the topping lift and either the outhaul or vang. On the port side I already have a winch and a single deck organizer(DO). This was true of the older H37Cs because the mainsheet went forward under the boom, down to a turning block, through the DO and back to the winch. I will have to replace that single DO with a double and add a double deck organizer to the other side. Then you bolt turning blocks to the mast partners using the bolts already there. Wish I had a better picture but in this one you can see the port winch. And you can see there is very little space between those cabin hatches and the main hatch to run lines, two a side should be OK. The DO's will be mounted about five feet forward of the winches and angled toward the mast turning blocks. I think there is a picture of a DO on the Photo Forum. My problem has been in finding an affordable winch to mount on the starboard side. And I suppose I should ante up for a couple of clutches but maybe a cleat will suffice. Almost forgot your point about the mid-cabin traveler. I don't have that so cannot comment. Can you go under it? Let us know how you proceed. Ed (schencked@bfusa.com)

Better photo.

Here is a better picture of the original turning block and deck organizer(DO). My mainsheet no longer runs under the boom this way. So I could move that or another block to the mast partner and run my staysail halyard back through that DO to the winch. Then I would need the same setup on the other side for the main halyard.

Hey Ed

Ed, Why not take the winch off the mast and use it on the cabin top. Thats what I did and it works just fine.

Thanks Dan,

Art wrote me and suggested the same thing. Currently that winch is my backup windlass but I admit not having thought of that. My mast is on a rack under covers for several more weeks but I'll certainly consider it. Then when I was at the boat on Saturday I saw that there is only room between the seahood and the opening hatches for ONE line. If I run two lines back on each side I will have to cleat/clutch off one in front of the hatches. The deck organizer sheave and the right side of the winch have to be perfectly aligned to make this work.

Clutches

You were saying that you are considering clutches for your new deck layout. I have two new Easylock doubles that are excess to my needs that i will part with for $30 plus shipping if your interested. Reply over forum or direct to qldman36@msn.com
