I'm about to schedule my first ever bottom job on a "new-to-me" sailboat (30ft C&C) down in New Orleans. Being a former Trailer Sailor, the cost of anti-fouling paint has shocked me, but I knew that going into it.
Anyway, I wanted to get your opinions/advice if there any other economical and alternative places or ways to buy anti-fouling paint, other than at West Marine? If it's $140/gal at WM, are there any other methods or places to buy it where an average fellow can save some money?
Also, I'm a good DIY sailor where I learned on my 26ft trailerable, so I'm considering a DIY bottom job. Any thoughts on if one really saves any money doing this way. I don't mind the mess or the hard work, especially if I'm saving money.
I look forward to your thoughts, ideas and opinions, especially if anyone knows of any other economical sources for bottom paint!
