I have just acquired a 1985 Catalina 27. What is the proper way to attach the forward grommet on the foot of the main sail to the boom. There is a thin pin in the black painted portion on the boom but due to the thickness of the sail's grommet that pin will not pass through the grommet directly. Is there a specific shackle or part which serves this purpose. Also, where can I get a rebuild kit for my Wilcox Crittenden marine head. Thanks.

You should be able to find a rebuild kit for your head at West Marine. But as Peggie will tell you, if you have a cheaper model, it might be better to just buy a new head. I believe the reasoning is that a rebuild kit costs somewhere in the $40 range & a new cheapie (even Wilcox-Crittendon makes 'em) head costs about $75. Not having to rebuild one of those things is definitely worth the extra couple of bucks - believe me! LaDonna

Double check the model......

...of your head. If it is the "head-mate" I think the kit costs more like $60. The head-mate is the economy model marine toilet made by willcox-critendon (They make other models) it has a red-tipped rod lever for switching between flush and pump-out. If you know the specfic parts you need to replace, they can be ordered separately. Find a local marine store that carries your brand they will be able to help you contact manufacturer for parts list. I have seen a complete pump assembly for the head mate sold as a stand alone replacement. Cost about $100. Even though a complete new head-mate costs about $140, it's easier just to replace the pump. Except for the large gasket under the bowl, everthing else is associated with the pump assembly. Regarding your question about the mainsail tack, I would call Catalina Parts at 818-884-7700 ext. 253 and describe your problem.
