Easy B&R specific sail trim question

Hunter 34 owners,

Have the books, etc. but I ask this after jib sheet turning block shattered during race the other night. Flying a 155% genoa and crew are trimming in during stronger wind until the sail touches the spreader. I've heard trimming in until touching or a hand width away, but that applies to a conventional rig. Is there a norm a out there among 34 owners on how far to trim in?

I trim my Kevlar race sails all the way till touching you have spreader end Capps right that is what they are for

I don't have a 155% genoa so I can't comment based on experience. What do the tell tales indicate with that much trim? Are you pointing up to where you desire? With the swept back spreaders and chainplates inboard, can the genoa be over-trimmed?

You didn't mention what keel you have. I sail a shoal draft H34. We never pull the headsail in so far that it touches the spreader. Now the shoal draft keel does not generate any lift - so over trimming the sail would only slow us down. Even with the deep keel you are probably over trimming, and this makes the boat slower.

The jib foot block didn't shatter because you pulled the sail in too far. It broke because it has been in the sun too long. Garhaur makes a nice replacement.
