I tried out my new back with a 25 nm daysail that would have been memorable in normal circumstances for almost perfect wind and a variety of Chesapeake Bay scenery.
We took a few tacks out of Oxford and then close reached across the Choptank River and back on a booming reach. Then most of the way up the Tred Avon River to within sight of the Port of Easton landing and return.
I'm now anchored in Plaindealing Creek across from Oxford. My back felt better and more solid in winds verging on the need for a reef than it has in months. It still feels great as I write this.
A side note: My SPOT Beacon just started flashing the low battery signal today. I put the two AA Lithium batteries in this unit (SPOT 1, the original version) just before on October 1 when I left Portland. They have powered it keeping track of it's position and transmitting fixes to satellites for this entire time. Very impressive.
How come the batteries in my Raymarine autopilot remote that only has to talk to a little box about six feet away need to be replaced every couple weeks?
