Hey Reinhold

Is that Warsaw as in Indiana? If so, perhaps we could go down together, as I'm in Ft Wayne. I'd be going for at least a week as well. John S/V Icymoon

I think Kerr Lake Would be Ideal

Lake sailing is not my favourite, but Kerr Lake is really nice for lake sailing as far as it goes. There are tons of little coves for protected anchorages. It has friendly marinas and beautiful campgrounds. It has enough open water to make racing interesting. It is not over developed like so many lakes. In fact Kerr Lake has very few houses on the lake. I'd perfer the NC coast, but I cannot think of a place where you could gather 50 or more boats and find parking for all the cars, trailers, and campers.

How About Oriental, NC?

Oriental is a great town for sailing. Only 800 permanent residents but there are 2,400 sailboats in town. There is a very nice ramp with plenty of parking and free anchorage in the harbor and free docking in town. There are also nice hotels and B&B's in town in case anyone would rather not stay on their boats. One of the sailing clubs I belong to is about 505 trailerable sailors and they make two annual pilgrimages to Oriental. Sailing on Pamlico Sound is great and there are interesting places to visit within a few hours sail of Oriental. There is a coffee shop with internet access just in front of the town dock and there are several great restaurants in town as well, but M&M's Cafe is the best. And no, I don't work for the Oriental Chamber of Commerce, but I do keep my Hunter 34 in town. Check out the harbor webcam at: http://www.towndock.net/ Gary

Kerr Lake

Kerr Lake's Henderson Point recreation area has plenty of parking and good ramps. It gets my vote.b

Kerr Lake/Last weekend of April?

Since most of us not in the immediate area will need to schedule vacation time if we are to come, perhaps we can come to a consensus on where and when. I've only gotten back into sailing after 30+ yrs, so I'm no racer. I will try to do a passable imitation though and since I'll be singlehanding, anyone that wants to crew is welcome aboard.

update

I will be talking with Hunter about helping us shortly. What topics or things would you guys like to do or see? I am looking at mid May for this. We will have one race but there will be no protest committess as any infractions, all boats involved would have to do two complete circles and then continue on. This worked for me well years ago as everyone was very careful. We will also plan to have a band on Saturday night and yes everyone will dance or you will be keel hauled or maybe you might have to snif that moonshine and get crazy like me. Ha! Crazy Dave Condon

Boat at Whitneys

My boat was at Whitneys for several months to get substantial repairs; new mast, boom, pulpit, and rigging resulting from storm damage. I will be sailing the St Johns Dec 26 through Jan 2 then towing back to GA. Send me an email at RWT1974@aol.com. s/v Thome Inn
