Easiest teak treatment???

Glad to see another Tartan 34 owner. Mine is a 1970 and the teak was nasty when I got here. I use Cetol Natural Teak followed by several coats of Cetol Gloss. It's work the first time but it lasted 3 yrs. Then I just reapply the gloss again.
I understand that being on the Jersey shore is a lot different then Florida, but I just wanted to throw in my two cents.
By the way my hull number is 68, what's yours?

Isn't this the proverbial dilemma of teak on a sailboat. After 45 years of dealing with this, I am presently using the Sitkins method. As you can see from my avatar, I have a lot of teak. I now rough up the teak with a scotch pad each year and apply a new coat of gloss. That is my preferred method at this time.

It looks like I will give the Semco a try. See how that goes. Some good answers here that have me thinking. My teak is not all that bad, just neglected. Boat is in the yard and I have the stanchion bases off for access to the rail. Wife is a bit motivated to do some teak maintenance.

I second Sikken Cetol Natural teak and Gloss recommendation. Excellent product (for North-East region). It is much easier than heavier varnishes, requires annual coat, and the surface looks great, no chips, even on the foot traffic areas. Practical Sailor had it flagged as one of the better non varnish products as well. Good luck!

Thanks again for the replies.
I started cleaning the teak. Just using some soap and water and a green scrubby. Sometimes using a scrub brush over the green pad.

It is cleaning up just fine. I do have a few dark spots that I would like to treat.

That is the next question then..
what might I want to use to treat the darker spots in the teak? The spots are only a few square inches and are fairly light. At first I thought it was just a shadow. My hull is painted Imron, base coat-clear coat. I dont care about the deck being stained, but the topsides I care about. (the deck is worn out Algrip)

Should I just try bleach first? If that does not work then what should I try next?

You can get teak brightner. I would use that before laundry bleach. Be sure andrincewell after applying. Home deck stores also sell bleach/brightners cheaper than marine or teak specific products
