Early California Delta Trip Planning

We are in the midst of planning a week long delta sail sometime late spring/early summer. It has been 12 years since I sailed my Capri 25 from Alameda to Tower Park and back. From what I recall it was a blast and there were few concerns regarding depth (though we ran aground twice) and there were no low bridges to contend with. Our C30 draws a bit more and, of course, has a much taller mast. Anyone have a specific route they like to go that allows for good sailing an maneuverabilty as well as good gunkholing? I know Bob Camarena has shared a bit about a few spots, but what I would like to have, if possible, is specifics and actually plan a complete route now, with charts, and know pretty much what to expect. Thanks in advance! Chris

By the Way, Bob Camarena

I searched the archives and found that post in May '01 you made regarding the delta. Good information and I want to say thanks again to you for it. Still, any other suggestions heartily welcomed! Chris

Come to this meeting...

Bob C. and I both sail out of Stockton Sailing Club. For the next 4 weeks or so, on Wednesday nites at 1900, at the SSC clubhouse, I'll be moderating a series of cruising seminars on places to go, and local knowledge for the Delta, plus the trip to/from the Bay. We'll also have a brief discussion in later meetings of Coastal stuff, like to Monterey or Bodega/Tomales Bays. If you can make it to Stockton on Wednesday nite in January, there'll be some good "local knowledge". If you can't make it, e-mail me off the list with your interests, and I'll give you more info... A Suggestion

Chris- You might want to consider extending your trip by leaving your boat in Stockton or at another marina in the Delta for a month or so. Start with the week and then come back on weekends. That way you'll be able to really get to take advantage of the Delta. Every couple of years or so, we take our C-30 to the Bay for a month or two and really enjoy ourselves. The reverse should work as well. I suggest that you put a card up at the Stockton Sailing Club about exchanging slips with someone at the Club who wants to spend some time in the Bay. There's always someone looking for a swap. Bob
