The starboard cockpit drains (two) plus the sink drain terminate in a 1.5" diameter brass pipe which then screws into a 1.5" diameter seacock and thru-hull. The brass pipe has two short sections of pipe brazed on each side.. thus three inputs (top, and two side pipes). While working on the engine last week, with almost no pressure, the two side pipes broke off... creating an old faithful effect as water rushed upward through the thru-hulls. On inspection, the pipe was found to be paper thin. Has anyone had a similar experience? I cannot unscrew the pipe from the seacock as it simply collapses when I try to grip it with pliers or pipe wrench. Penetrating oil does not seem to help. Any suggestions? Any suggestions as to where I can find a replacement? Kirby
E32 Cockpit Drain Thru Hulls

Cockpit Drains
The original cockpit drains on my E32 (1974) were found to be mearly thin wall drain tail peices (read hardware store drain replacement parts). The flange on the tail piece was set in polyester resin in a blob under the cockpit. The top side of the cockpit shows a 2" dia. flat stainless stainer. The good news is it kept the original price of the boat reasonable.The bad news is decent 1 1/2" cockpit drain assemblies run about $54 each and given the size of the 1974 cockpit the ABYC now recomends a total of 6 of them. (4 in the main cockpit and 2 in the helmsmens well area). The drain pipes as they join your thruhull should also be replaced, along with the thruhull Valve itself which is probably a gate valve in its golden years (faucet handle shut off affair). Suitable replacements include a Groco or Spartan Marine Sea Cocks & thru hulls if your a card carrying member of the "bronze age" like myself, or one the "Marlon" versions if not. I agree that all the above make for a nice spring time project on the hard. Enjoy, Regards, Dave Irwin
