We do not get very many Sailing shows But I found one coming this week. It is a 2007 show but it is new to me. Epic Conditions on The Weather Channel,

Chesapeake Sailing Sailors explore Chesapeake Bay, the largest estuary in the United States.


It will air on The Weather Channel Wednesday March 31st at 3 PM eastern.

This is a great show...

if you're unfamiliar with the Chesapeake Bay as a sailing ground, but it makes a little too much about the changing weather conditions and how powerful they are. Any experienced Bay sailor knows about the afternoon thunderstorms and what they look like forming. I thought it was a little too dramatic and geared to the fears of landlubbers myself.

You are right...but it can also be a dangerous environment. In early April I have been at Smith Point and found 40+knots out of the North West and hit nasty waves. It was a very scary experience.

They do over-hype the normal weather and make it sound like it is a normal thing to change weather so quickly. Spring and Summer are great times but you do have to keep a weather eye out in the fall and if you do you will be just fine. I crossed the Chesapeake Bay in a Hunter 22 from Smith Creek to Tangier Island to Chrisfield MD.

Did anyone check out the site mentioned on the youtube video?

SailFlow.com is damn impressive. I played with all the different maps, very impressive.

Well the Wednesday airing was preempted because of actual weather happening in the Northeast, ssshesh, the Weather Channel covering live bad weather!

Caught the re-air today. I thought it was awesome to watch as a sailor. It really would not provide an how to, but great to see people out doing their thing in such conditions and have a place that can handle 50kts and still manageable for people to go out and sail.

Worth watching when it re-airs if you have not seen it yet.
