I have a Dutchaman system on my Main...problem is the lines have broken....does anyone know where I might find replacements or what test pounds they need to be? Thought I could do without, however, do alot of single handing and find I miss the flakeing of the main when I lower it. Thanks in advance for any inputs.

Line for dutchman

I have a Dutchman system on my H30, and I have the manual wich says the line is 300# test, and the line is available from them directly. When I get to the boat this weekend I will look up their number and send it to you. Jim

Don, the line from Dutchman is UV protected.

Or so Dutchman claims. Thus, ordinary fishing line, in theory, will quickly deteriorate. I replaced mine a couple of years ago with Dutchman line. My memory is that the cost was about $10 or so. I will see if I can find the contact info and get back with you.

this is it see the link

I just replaced mine 3 month ago. After some research I found this email that represents Dutchman. tdorr@soundsailingcenter.com or website http://www.mvbinfo.com/ They say the lines are UV resistant and come in different thickness. I got the thicker ones. Worked fine. Total Cost ? about $20, 5 days shipping. hope that helps siggi

Whipper Snipper Line

Hi Whipper Snipper line can do the trick too. I was stuck and found some clear line at the hardware store and there were no issues with uv damage. Regards

I used fishing line which also claims to be

UV resistant, been up since December in So. Calif. sun and no sign of change yet. Don't know if "genuine Dutchman monofilament" has or claims to have more UV resistance than #300 leader line.

Problem with weed whacker line

I read a post a while back suggesting weed whacker line and tried it. This probably varies from one brand to another, but the product I tried turned into a rubber band in the Florida sun and had little control over the sail. Better results with 300lb test monofilament.

I looked it up this weekend and mine came from a company called Martinus Van Breems. Inc. Phone number is 203-838-0375, Fax 0377. Mine was purchased in 1993, hope this helps. Jim

From the horse's mouth

Found this in a posting on the North Sails web site (written by the head of Dutchman): "Use 400lb test (2mm) or 500 lb test (2.5mm) mono. Use the heavier stuff if going offshore or if your sails luff is much over 40'. Many sailmakers stock this. You can also order from Dutchman. Enough for your boat is $10 for the 2mm, $17 for the 2.5mm, plus shipping. By the way, do not use weedwacker mono - has no UV inhibitors and will break down in a matter of a few months. You can the Dutchman company at 203-838-0375 or via fax: 203-838-0377. Hope it helps. (My new ODay 322 has a Dutchman system too, so I'll be keeping this info handy myself.) Pete
