Has anyone converted (retrofitted) their full batten mailsail to one with the Dutchman sail flaking system? I'm seriously thinking of buying one and having it installed. I'm just wondering whether any other mid-size Hunter Owners have done the same, and what are the pros and cons of the system. Thanks, Ed Sabornie '97 Hunter 280

Good System

I have the Dutchman installed on my 33.5. I like it a lot. However, last season I replaced the toping lift ad ever since then I have not been able to get it adjusted. Once it’s installed and adjusted correctly you will love the system. The 33.5 has full battens and the sail just sits on the boom ready to tie down after you lower it. John

agree

I agree with the first response, once the system is set up properly it works great. I had the system set up by the sailmaker when I bought a new main. I have yet to set up a running topping lift. I had to make several trips up the mast to set the guide lines properly. If you can, make a running topping lift even before your sail arrives, it will make your life easier in the long run. I plan to change my topping lift next year, I'm (happy to say) too busy sailing to to replace it just yet.
