We just set up a date (in March) with our marina to have our boat hauled and powerwashed for the spring. We hope not to have it repainted as we just repainted last year with 3 coats of ablative. When it is out of the water, what maintainance should we perform ? Here is a short list of what we are already planning : Replace zinc Lubricate seacocks Look for blisters Clean prop up (barnacles) Check cutlass bearing Are we missing anything ? Thanks, Ron

Rudder and Strut

Check rudder play and steering lash (assuming you have a wheel). Check the strut (if you have one). I recently hauled and found my strut slightly bent, probably from wrapping a mooring line. Other than that, I'm not familiar with ablative paint (we nearly all use hard epoxy in SoCal). However, should it be power washed rather than just wiped off? Good luck. I think you have it covered. During Haulout

In addition to the items you mentioned, always worth it to carefully inspect the keel/hull joint to make sure no sea water is reaching your keel bolts, and here is a 10 cent item that could be worth a lot more: replace the cotter pin holding your prop on....

Slather on two thick coats of Desitin on all ...

metal surfaces below the waterline. It contains zinc oxide and does wonders in resisting marine growth. It is the same stuff that is used to prevent or clear up diaper rash. Terry

Oh, and clean your knotmeter impeller and ...

do you need to replace the material in your stuffing box? And don't forget the beers when you finish up. Terry

Check Thru-hull hoses and clamps.

Its a good idea to check and replace, if necessary, any bad thru hull hoses and clamps, just a little easier when boat is out of the water.
