I have looked at a non skid product called Durabak advertised and from the info on their web site looks like great stuff. I want to use it to refresh the very weathered non skid on my deck. Has anyone used this? How did it work, was it easy to apply and has it held up well? Any info would be great.

Too rough.

If you do a "Forum Archive" search on 'Durabak' you will find that there was some discussion about it last year. For me it is too "industrial", very rough. In fact the company suggested a coat of paint over theirs for a pleasure craft.

durabak

Hi Guys I happen to work by the people that make durabak and they have a smooth rubber type epoxy with out the rough additive they tell me that they can give you a fine rubber grit to add to there smooth durabak for boat decks I have used the stuff on truck beds and trailers cement floors Its realy neet and it gos on great and can be sanded off and replaced .I think the smooth stuff looks good I dont no If it would be N/S enough for a sail boat deck.Maybe you could use a sive to strain out the heavy chunks of rubber.? just leave the smaller stuff in the mix They tell me you can tint the color .I have been talking to a guy that has been thinking about it for his 70s 38' morgan I dont no if he has done it since it still real snowy in NY/NJ and my boat yard has snow between the boats up to my neck.8 weeks till Im back in the water. Good Old Boat article on Durabak

Tim, sometime last year GOB magazine had a DYI article about Durabak being used to repaint the non skid on a sailboat. The owner claimed it did a great job but I would always want to get a second opinion since the editors of GOB as far as I know don't survey the work, they just publish the articles. And I have seen a lot of poor paint jobs when walking the docks. Kevin
