I just purchased 1982 Starwind 22, first keel boat; first question, how tight should headstay and backstay (some type of test); most sailing is done 10-15 kts; I have the mast bent slightly back. Second question, the plastic around the ports (windows) is bad; how do they come off; does the screws go into the boat or to the inside plastic frame. Tom Colley

I had an '82 years ago and removed the ports. Not sure about your exact question, but they bolt thorough (I believe the cabin sides.) Take out bolts and the separate into 2 parts, inside and out. Warning, replacements are VERY expensive. I wound up replacing it with pieces of plexiglass on the outside and bolted through same holes.
