Duck Bill Cockpit Drain

My Newport cockpit drains utilize two simple duck bill valves that attach to the outboard side of the cockpit on what appears to be 1" (perhaps 3/4") pvc. The valves are installed over the pvc and held on with hose clamps. I've been unable to find replacements. Any suggestions? Could these be duck bills that were designed for use inside a line (a "male" fitting) and simply installed as a female fitting? Just typing this message is giving me ideas for a search, but I would appreciate suggestions. Thanks for the help!

Sounds like a ....................

basic swing check valve. Lowes, Home Depot or your local plumbing wholesaler could probably help you out. Just reading your post made me remember I dont have one and have been thinking about installing one inline.

car parts - drain from car a/c condensate

Maybe from a car air conditioning system ? I have seen a few duck bills like this (though maybe not as big) that drain water from the condensor on a car a/c system.. Just a thought, Sven

not a condensor.....

..an evaporator. The evaporator is located in the A/C ducting and condenses atmospheric water vapor. The condenser is the cooling device that looks like the radiator and sits in front of the radiator.

Drain

Check at your local cadillac dealer for a cowl panel drain for a CTS, I am using one on my mac222, I can check monday at work to get part# and approximate price. I got one off a panel I was replacing, but it should be available separately. Just went out and pulled it off my drain, there is a part# molded into it 90210331 but that may be a casting # the inside dia is about 1 1/4" the outside dia is a little under 1 3/4 an has a lip at the top, I will take a pic if I can find the camera. Here's an update..Thanks for the tips

Here's the closest thing I've found so far - http://www.atlantisenterprises.com/productswater/anchor/duckbilldrain.htm I'll have to cross over to the dark side and visit a PWC dealership to get one, though. Thanks for all of tips - Tom

Now I understand what your talking about.

Still, If you are able to access the drain line, I think a swing check valve would be better idea. Thats is of course coming from a Plumbers mind too, thinking with the tools of his trade. :) I actually think the duckbill is a cool idea. Never have seen one before, ( I'm new to sailing too ). But IMO the swing check is a more positive water stop, and can be hidden in the bowels of the stern sothe black rubber duckbill cant be seen hanging off the stern. Thats my 2 cents! Jeff
