Ducati

I have never heard of a Ducati diesel, although am familiar with their motorcycles. Would think parts would be very hard to comeby. Check around and see if you can loacate a dealer. Have never to my knowledge seen one. First impression would be to stay away from it.

Ducatti,

As with anything Italian and mechanical, be cautious. I don't know of anyone in the US who has access to these parts. Pat McCartin Inland Marine Diesel Buford, Ga imd_ga@hotmail.com

Bad diesel

Ducatti diesels were produced by the motorcycle company of the same name. They quit importing them in 81 because of emisson standards. These engines were ok as long as you kept the water out of the injectors. If even the smallest partical got in to them they were toast and very expensive to replace. I would get rid of it and replace it with something else.

Oh Pat!

I'm Italian and mechanical. The only person who is cautious around me is my wife! :) But seriously, besides most of the sports-cars made in the world, Italy also dominates the market for things like hydraulic components and, are you ready? Propellers. Well, maybe not 'dominates'.

You know what FIAT (Italian Car Company) stands for? Fix it again Tony! I would say the same goes for a Ducati. Chao!

I wouldn't

Anything that is odd or out of date or out of productin will have many, many maintenace problems. In the first place if it is out of production it is usually because the company is belly up or has stopped production on that particular component a long time ago and a long time ago usually equates to no one has any spare parts or is building them or has any warehoused. Rare and unusual sometimes means collectable and sometimes it means no one knows what the hell it is or how to deal with it when it breaks. If it is mechanical it WILL wear and need repair. I'd find another boat or get a discount of some kind to compensate me for the almost certain engine replacement coming in the future. I know of whence I speak. I bought a perfectly nice O'day 28 but it has a **+!!!!@##$%}+%%$$## OMC saildrive in it. The saildrive is OK but the OMC would make a great anchor if I could afford to replace it. I'd run from this diesel were I you and find a boat with a nice yanmar or other such engine. MIke
